WEEK 6 - BLITZ V JETS

The Jets were no match for an angry Blitz team looking for revenge after the loss to the Steelers. The Blitz drove the length of the field to score on the opening drive. That pretty much set the tone for the game as the Blitz could move th eball easily on offense. Meanwhile the Blitz D was dominant and the Jets really struggle to get anything going. MVP for the game was D Kahuroa who score 34 of the Blitz 46 points behind some monster blocking from the big men.

Score: Blitz 46 - 14 Jets
Blitz Scorers: D Kahuroa (34), Rohan Williams (6), Paul Mamottoe (6)
Fumble Recoveries: D Kahuroa (1) TD

WEEK 5 - BLITZ V STEELERS

The Blitz 3 game winning streak was brough to an end by the best team in the league the Steelers. This was a defensive battle from the start and both defenses scored. The screo was tied at 7 each at half time. In the second half the Steelers turned the screws and the Blitz broke under the pressure allowing the Steelers to run away with it at the end. Final score Steelers 27 - 7 Blitz.

Score: Blitz 7 - 27 Blitz
Blitz Scorers: Mike Rose (6), Aaron Allingham (1)
Fumble Recoveries: Mike Rose (1) TD

WEEK 4 - BLITZ V BRONCOS

The Broncos were undefeated coming into this game. But the Blitz set the tone early, taking the opening kickoff and driving the length of the field to open the scoring through a Steve Mathews dive. The Blitz defense then went to work and shut down the Broncos offense. The Blitz quickly got the ball back and scored again behind an Aaron Allingham run off tackle. The Broncos never threatened the Blitz endzone or looked like scoring as the Blitz defense was outstanding all day. Two more scores from from Steve Mathews and Rohan Williams capped off an emphatic Blitz win 24-0. This win makes it three in a row for the Blitz as they now move to 3-1. Next week the Blitz face the top of the table and undefeated Steelers.
Shutout. A big proud word this week for the blitz. Defense took it to the house this week and showed some real signs of getting the core group working in sync. Every player on the field knew what they had to do and they didn't just do it, they created it. With the stats suggesting an absolute man handling session, Blitz fantasy owners would have scored a huge amount with 6 sacks and another 10 involved personnel having shoulders in the tackle. 1 interception to Tyson Hornby, this week?s defensive MVP who gave them absolutely no hope in moving the ball in both air and ground attacks. Superman was proud to say that in most tackles he had the pleasure of counting how many Blitz men he had to pull off the ball handlers after the tackle was made. Congratulations went to a lot of people in the defense. All down linemen had hands in the sacks and allowed the LBs to flow freely. Linebackers stuck to their tackles and read the plays well. Nothing got through the corners and safeties Darragh Farrell and superman where just everywhere getting running backs in the back field and stopping yards. Big congratulations to the Broncos. They got hit on all day and kept coming. After getting tackled numerous times in the backfield, Broncos QB Skett should be congratulated on his strength of character as he never looked back and always got up to hit the next play.
Offense didn't disappoint either, scoring 24 points with a steady controlling game. Aaron Allingham made some long yard runs thanks to an O-Line that worked like clockwork. Steve Mathews playing at FB played one of the hardest games the team has seen for a while. He earns Offensive MVP this week as the Dozer could not be stopped. If there were yards needed he did not disappoint. No missed blocks and no errors put a big smile on his big mug. There were not many big catches this week but the backs and QB have to give thanks to the O-Line. A tremendous effort by the big Fellas. The Broncos commenting that it was one of the best O-lines they have played against for a while.
Coincidently, this brings us to our next point. Play of the week. It was the opening drive of the game and a simple lead left was called. On the right in tackle however was Barry Bidwell. We do not often get O-Line in the play of the week... Hang on wait... Check that. All our plays of the week have been lineman. Interesting, anyway the play was not going his way but what he did set the tone for the whole game. Big Bazz came out to a poor unfortunate soul blocking him clear off the ground landing a couple of feet backwards. Big Bazz had a point to prove as a few of his mates played in the Broncos and I think he completed the task quite well.
Game MVP went to Marcus Mattox this week in his first game of the season. It was like an old school Batman episode. *SMASH!*. Coach P would be calling out "whistle!" as the Broncos would be running his direction. "Stop the play, oh dear god stop the play." *WHAM!*. The attitude Air America (formally team America) had *BIFF!* if he was not in the tackle he would be a little upset which of course, made the *CRACK!* next tackle a little worse. *OUCH!*. One of the plays he *WOOSH!* jumped a lead blocker landing on the QB. *BANG!*. With that, congratulations Air America *BASH* you can stop now.

Score: Blitz 24 - 0 Broncos
Blitz Scorers: Steve Mathews (12), Aaron Allingham (6), Rohan Williams (6)
Blitz Sacks: Daniel Macri (1,2), Kevin Wilson (0,3), Matthew Delaney (0,2), Marcus Mattox (2,2), Marty Flaherty(1,1), Michael Rose (2,1)
Blitz Ints: Tyson (1)
Fumble Recoveries: Craig Murdoch (1), D Kahuroa (1)

WEEK 3 - BLITZ V SAINTS

The Saints scored on the first play of the game - the opening kick off. They converted to take the lead 8-0. After that the Saints never looked like scoring as the Blitz defense locked them down. The Blitz offense moved the ball well and scored from a D Kahuroa run but couldn't convert. The score was 8-6 to the Saints at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Blitz engineered a long drive capped off by another Kahuroa score to make it 12-8 to the Blitz at halftime. The second half remained scoreless. The Blitz couldn't capitalise on several long drives as they dropped key passes and gave away numerous penalties. The Blitz ran out the clock in the 4th quarter to seal their second win in a row and move to 2-1.
2 Plays of the week from the game. The first was Hamish?s first ever punt. The snap was high but he pulled it in and got it away well. He also put some extra action on it so it bounced off a Saint on landing. Craig was awake enough to jump on the ball and get it back.
The second was a sweep left to D. Kev, Dozer, Moose and Marty got nice blocks and got D outside. Craig made a beautiful block downfield and D made huge yards before running out of steam and letting himself get caught. Not so good was the fact that we didn?t score on the drive.
Again we mention game MVP D Kahuroa who played a brilliant game at RB. His never say die attitude and abililty to move laterally easily causing him to be very dangerous behind his line. Rohan Williams OMVP in QB showed that he had what it takes and when he needed to was happy to put the ball under the arm and take the hits. Big Dan Macri worked really hard at nose and should be congratulated on his defensive strength stopping the middle runs.

Score: Blitz 12 - 8 Saints
Blitz Scorers: D Kahuroa (12)
Blitz Sacks: Marty Flaherty (1)
Fumble Recoveries: Craig Murdoch (1)

WEEK 3 - BOLTZ V JETS

It was the first game against opposition for the Boltz and what a game it was. For 16 Boltz guys it was 37 Degrees but the pitch felt like 40. Jets coming off a big loss wanted this one badly and it showed in the game. The end score reading Jets 24 V Boltz 8.
First game mentions to: Stacey Squire, James... Dean (no idea what your last name is), Tony Griffin, Lance, Darrian, and Chris Matthews adding to our preseason rookie list of: Sarun Kunakool, Brendan Lally, Ben Melville and Hamish Wilson. There being big thanks to our seniors: Josh Goldsmith (Moose), Marty Flaherty, Craig Murdoch, Mark Cavanna, Kevin Wilson, Aaron Allingham and of course Jonas Curic-Roth who QB?d under some tight opportunities.
There were some strong plays and great commitment to the battle. Every time someone would break through there would be another chasing on the other side of the field. Always chasing never giving up. Adam Steen made some great chase downs along with Ben Melville who was always in the tackle. Ben Melville getting his first sack putting a massive smile on his face. James was great in his first game playing ILB reading and reacting well. Stace, Lance, Sarun, Chris were very good on the line. The only thing that beat them was experience and not necessarily the opposite man. Never whinged and never gave up. Hamish had a great game keying in on blocks to allow the outside run, also taking some great catches. Aaron never left the field playing ILB, DE, NT and C throughout the game. Kevin Wilson the animal FB ran hard between tackles and kept Jonas from numerous sacks.
There were 2 plays of the day:
Moose was playing tight-end in this particular play. Moose, if you do not know normally plays LG for the Blitz team. He ran a 10 yard out from I formation, receiving the ball from Jonas and running a further 10m up the sideline while carrying 4 men. Unbelievable to watch and entertaining for the crowd.
But the best play of the day was the Boltz first score. It was a simple FB screen in the hands of Kevin Wilson. Kevin if you do not know plays LT for the Blitz team. Out of gun Jonas received the snap and released to Big Kev over the middle. Kev turned up field beating 2 making 12 yards. Then a South Perth Rugby League Player bystander in the name of Tony Griffin, knowing nothing about the game just following Kev as if it was rugby received a lateral and did the natural, RAN! Aaron got a block just as the pass went through allowing Tony to run with full stride all the way to the posts for a 40 yard play touchdown. These plays are the ones that make it all worthwhile.
Coach Dusty was really proud of everyone. But MVP of the game went to 'Mr Quiet' Ben Melville and what an amazing game he had. He stood out by far from everyone else and had heart like you would not believe. Getting 1 sack, making by far the most tackles for the game and moving into RB making some blistering runs saw this young man?s game grow. He was constantly getting in the backfield to stop the run shedding off some big boys. Just when the Boltz needed a big play... Ben was there. Reminds me a bit of old Lachlan Thompson when he first started. Who the hell is this guy? First time I have ever heard him say anything was when I told him to blitz...'Yesssss'. Well done Ben. Huge game mate.
Coaches will have some really hard decisions to make this week as the Boltz have a bye and the Blitz take on the Broncos.

Score: Boltz 8 - 24 Jets
Boltz scorers: Tony Griffin (6), Hamish (2)
Boltz sacks: Ben Melville (1)

WEEK 2 - BLITZ v BOLTZ

What a game. The derby between the 2 teams was as hard as other games if not harder. Boys had a point to prove in the Boltz line-up while the Blitz thought about consolidating a consistant game in Offense. Steve Matthews wearing Chris Jones's number 36 didn't get taken lightly on the field.
Blitz lead by QB Rohan completed a lot of deep passes through out the game and the O-line held out very well only allowing the 1 sack from Chris Jones. Blitz RB Aaron Allingham went down early with a missing heel allowing D Kahuroa to take the reigns and prove that he isn't just a backup. D running in over 120 yards with one long of 65 yards within his few carries that he had was devastating on the run. Kris Davis in his first game at TE scoring his first Touchdown on a nice little out.
The Blitz Defense kept the Boltz honest playing a basic hard game. D Kahuroa playing FS was able to land some big hits on Will Godsell who gave it right back in return. These guys have a healthy love/hate relationship as they battle for the same spots in the Blitz team. Will Godsell turned heads with his blistering pace on outside runs which stumped the Blitz defense having a brilliant 55 yard run not allowed after running through 6 guys due to a flag. Dudley Taylor had some roaring FB dives, putting his hand up and laying pressure on spots in the Blitz team.
The game winners were however contained with in the Boltz Defense. CB Brendon Lally, SS Darragh Farrell and FS Tyson Hornby had great coverage getting 1 Interception each allowing the Boltz to attack with the Ball.
MVP of the game was Boltz QB Jonas Curic-Roth. He had a steady head on his shoulders and with a great made up O-line proved that he can run in the Blitz team. Under his control he was able to comlpete 80% of his passes and steer the Boltz to complete each gain above the 10 yard marker. Well done to completing his first game in 3 seasons due to injury. Other game awards went to Will Godsell and D Kahuroa for their seperate influences on the running game and nail driving defense.

Score: Blitz 24 - 20 Boltz
Blitz scorers: Kris Davis (6), D Kahuroa (6), Craig Murdoch (6), Rohan Williams(2), Aaron Allingham(2), Steve Matthews (2)
Boltz scorers: Darragh Farrell (8), Will Godsell (6), Jonas Curic-Roth (6)
Blitz sacks: Marty Flaherty (1)
Boltz sacks: Chris jones (1)
Boltz Ints: Brendon Lally (1), Darragh Farrell (1), Tyson Hornby (1)
